Well, this is explosive in the extreme…

We posted a trailer for Space Battleship Yamato here and now those fine folks over at Ain’t It Cool News have nabbed a couple more trailers (see below) for the film, also known as Starblazers.

The film is due for release in Japan on December 1st, whether any of the rest of us will get to see it any time soon remains to be seen. The film, directed by FX-guru Takashi Yamazaki is set in 2220, as the titular battleship transports the inhabitants of Earth to a new world, as a black hole threatens to engulf Earth.

To be honest, even with the benefit of subtitles, the trailers are nigh-on incomprehensible. There seem to be lots of explosions and battles and people in jeopardy and Steve Tyler of Aerosmith fame singing about love. I’m sure this will be lots of fun, so for the time being just sit back and enjoy.

Dave has been writing for HeyUGuys since mid-2010 and has found them to be the most intelligent, friendly, erudite and insightful bunch of film fans you could hope to work with. He's gone from ham-fisted attempts at writing the news to interviewing Lawrence Bender, Renny Harlin and Julian Glover, to writing articles about things he loves that people have actually read. He has fairly broad tastes as far as films are concerned, though given the choice he's likely to go for Con Air over Battleship Potemkin most days. He's pretty sure that 2001: A Space Odyssey is the most overrated mess in cinematic history.
