I’m not quite sure if we will ever get to the point of feeling sure there are no more casting announcements due from X-Men: First Class.

We’ve been keeping you up to date with all of the developments as they have happened and now we hear from Spanish site Fotogramas (via The Playlist) that actor Alex Gonzalez has joined the mutant prequel as “Riptide”.

Rather helpful website Rapsheet tells us that Riptide (aka Janos Quested) is able to spin his body at incredibly high speed, then hurling shuriken and other objects formed from calcified masses with such velocity that they can punch through steel. Sounds groovy.

Alex Gonzalez has only appeared in Sean Penn-starrer “Milk” outside of his native Spain, but whether that means he will only have a small role remains to be seen. With no shortage of available young actors to fill the various roles that have come up, someone must have seen something they liked in Gonzalez.

Riptide worked for Mr Sinister in many of the comic books, which makes a lot of sense given rumours that Mr S will be the big villain of First Class. Hopefully we will see the end of casting news now and the arrival of some meatier synopsis and on-set news before too long.

Dave has been writing for HeyUGuys since mid-2010 and has found them to be the most intelligent, friendly, erudite and insightful bunch of film fans you could hope to work with. He's gone from ham-fisted attempts at writing the news to interviewing Lawrence Bender, Renny Harlin and Julian Glover, to writing articles about things he loves that people have actually read. He has fairly broad tastes as far as films are concerned, though given the choice he's likely to go for Con Air over Battleship Potemkin most days. He's pretty sure that 2001: A Space Odyssey is the most overrated mess in cinematic history.
