Daniel Craig is locked in as Mikael Blomkvist, while David Fincher, who is directing The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, has an option to direct a sequel if, and when, that decision presents itself.

Steve Zaillian (Traffic, American Gangster) penned the script for Dragon Tattoo, and it seems Sony are keen to stick with the same scriptwriter for the whole trilogy, and want their to be a script ready for the second installment should Dragon Tattoo be the success they’re banking on. Also, with Craig attached to Bond 23, and the possibility of a sequel to Cowboys & Aliens, Sony will be looking to ensure they don’t have to re-cast.

In Sweden, the original trilogy of films, which starred Michael Nyqvist as Mikael Blomkvist and Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth Salander, was a huge success, with the films currently being released in the US and UK respectively to wide acclaim.
