Well, here is Sony sticking two rather large fingers up at those who still think the PlayStation Vita  still can’t hold its own in the ever crowded smart phone market.

As of tomorrow, PS Vita owners will be able to shout at all their friends using Skype which will be a free download. It works over both Wi-Fi and 3G and can also run in the background if you decide to snub your nagging partner and get on with some serious gaming. Or, if you prefer to be more social, you can pause the game, make your call and then get back to gaming.

It’s clear if the Vita version of Skype will have the IM service the computer versions have. I’ll guess we’ll find out tomorrow.

Senior Director of Skype, Manrique Brenes said: “With the launch of Skype for PS Vita, we are taking another step towards our ultimate goal of making Skype video calling available on every platform, all over the world, and meeting the demands of existing PlayStation users to offer video on a gaming console.”
