According to Deadline an upcoming film adaptation of Skippy Dies, Paul Murray’s Booker Prize long-listed novel rather than an eulogy to everyone’s favourite kangaroo, is to be written and directed by Neil Jordan.

Described as South Park meets Tom Brown’s Schooldays, the book follows the adventures of two unlikely schoolmates, Skippy and Reprecht, at a boarding school in Ireland.

The project will see Jordan (Interview With A Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles) reunite with regular producers Number 9 Films (How To Lose Friends And Alienate People) and Littlewave Film Productions (Ondine).

Jordan’s recent Ondine was a triumphant fairy tale and the director is also rumoured to be involved in adapting Neil Gaiman’s sublime The Graveyard Book to the big screen.
