The Prestige

When it comes to tricks and deception, magicians have to be the ultimate masters. Illusionist Alfred Borden, however, takes things to a whole new level in his professional rivalry with ex-partner Robert Angier. At odds due to the tragic death of Angier’s wife, the two men resort to increasingly extreme measures to undermine each other.

Borden, though, unveils the ultimate magic trick. ‘The Transported Man’ is the greatest trick Angier has ever seen. He becomes obsessed with unravelling the secret of the trick, and eventually comes across a solution, the cost of which, unfortunately, is truly immeasurable. Angier chooses to share the misery, though, by framing Borden for his apparent murder.

In the end, it is Borden who turns out to be the better trickster. Having pulled the very longest of cons, the question is which of Borden’s tricks is the greater? Keeping a huge secret his whole life in order to be able to pull off the trick of a lifetime? Or convincing Angier that the method was far more complicated than the simplest possible answer?
