With the first instalment proving to be a hit following its release in North America last year, Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment have today announced that a Sing sequel will be released on December 25th, 2020. That’s a prime release date, but one which will likely see it go head to head with whatever Star Wars Anthology movie is released that year.

This isn’t the only big news to come from the studios, however, as they’ve also confirmed that The Secret Life of Pets 2 has been pushed back a whole year from July 3rd, 2018 to July 3rd, 2019. A reason for the delay hasn’t been revealed, but hopefully, it’ll be worth the wait.

Oh, and those of you who can’t get enough of Minions will probably be glad to learn that the sequel is coming slightly sooner than expected; it’s moved up a week from July 10th, 2020 to July 3rd, 2020. These are the release dates for North America, though, so it remains to be seen when they’ll reach the UK (Sing for example doesn’t reach cinemas here until Friday).

Universal didn’t fare particularly well when this year’s Oscar nominations were revealed, so perhaps they’re hoping that a strong animated slate will pay off for them. Time will tell!
