Safe-Haven-PosterSafe Haven marks the latest adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ bestselling original novel, following on from last year’s The Lucky One, starring Zac Efron.

This time around, Josh Duhamel (Transformers) and Julianne Hough (Rock of Ages) will be taking the leading roles, and all we’ve seen so far suggests it’s heading to be another hit over the Valentine’s weekend.

With the film’s US release date fast approaching, Yahoo Movies have debuted a new featurette, taking us behind the scenes with Hough.

“SAFE HAVEN is an affirming and suspenseful story about a young woman’s struggle to love again, Safe Haven is based on the novel from Nicholas Sparks, the best-selling author behind the hit films The Notebook and Dear John. When a mysterious young woman arrives in a small North Carolina town, her reluctance to join the tight knit community raises questions about her past. Slowly, she begins putting down roots, and gains the courage to start a relationship with Alex, a widowed store owner with two young children. But dark secrets intrude on her new life with such terror that she is forced to rediscover the meaning of sacrifice and rely on the power of love in this deeply moving romantic thriller.”

Joining Duhamel and Hough in the leads for Safe Haven are Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother, The Avengers) and David Lyons (Grey’s Anatomy), with child actors Noah Lomax (Playing for Keeps) and newcomer Mimi Kirkland completing the cast.

Three-time Oscar nominee, Lasse Hallström (Chocolat, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape) is behind the camera, directing from a script by Leslie Bohem (TV’s Taken) and Dana Stevens (City of Angels).

Safe Haven will be released in the US on 14th February and in the UK is 1st March. The Valentine’s weekend will see Safe Haven facing some very tough competition, with A Good Day to Die Hard and Beautiful Creatures also opening. It’s going to be interesting to see how they all do at the box office that weekend.
