Star Wars: The Force Awakens was a huge critical and commercial hit, so expectations for Rogue One to deliver this December are obviously high. Unfortunately, a new report points to the Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) helmed release being “in crisis,” and Disney isn’t happy.

Page Six reveals that they’re not satisfied with the first cut delivered by Edwards, hence why four weeks of pricey reshoots are being scheduled for the summer. A movie doing reshoots is nothing new, but it appears as if the studio’s main concerns are a result of the movie not testing well and simply falling short of what J.J. Abrams did with The Force Awakens.

Living up to that release was never going to be easy, and you can understand why Disney and Lucasfilm are fretting over the first of what they hope will be many spinoff movies. Rogue One receiving bad reviews and disappointing at the box office would not be a good start to that, hence why they seem to be taking a hands on approach in this instance.

As with any rumour, it’s best to take this with a pinch of salt, and a Disney source had this to say about why exactly the reshoots are set to take place. “The filmmaking team and the studio always anticipated additional shooting and second unit work to make the film the absolute best it can be, and the actors were aware there would be additional shooting. Coming off ‘The Force Awakens,’ there’s an incredibly high bar for this movie and we have a responsibility to the franchise and to the fans to deliver the best possible movie we can.”
