There was a teaser last week which suggested we would get something Transformers: The Last Knight related today, and it’s ended up being a new look Megatron! Set to be released on June 23rd next year, the movie will feature the return of Mark Wahlberg as Cade Yeager as well as new roles for relative unknowns Isabela Moner and Jerrod Carmichael.

Production on Transformers: The Last Knight is set to begin in Detroit on June 6th, and will then move to currently unrevealed locations around the world as a new adventure begins.

With Michael Bay back in the director’s chair, the screenplay for the movie was written by Iron Man scribes Art Marcum and Matt Holloway along with Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down).

This obviously won’t be Megatron’s first big return, but it’s going to be interesting to see a) what convoluted explanation they come up with this time, and b) if Hugo Weaving voices him. The actor has previously described the Transformers franchise as “meaningless.”

Love them or hate them, the Transformers movies have been a resounding success, earning over $3.7 billion at the worldwide box office over the course of four movies. The Last Knight is the first instalment of the franchise released since a writers room was put together to pencil out the future of this series, but whether it will set up any of those spinoffs is unclear.
