Rob Riggle has a very impressive list of credits, and is well known for his stint on Modern Family and The Daily Show and has recently been seen in 12 Strong and True Memoirs of an International Assassin. Continuing his work on the big screen Riggle takes on a prominent role in Scott Speer’s Midnight Sun, a remake of the 2006 Japanese film Taiyô no uta.

He plays Jack, father to a daughter whose life-threatening aversion to sunlight challenges his family to overcome the cruel fate life has dealt them. He stars alongside Bella Thorne, Patrick Schwarzenegger and Quinn Shephard, and we had time with the actor to talk about how he prepared for the film.

DaniElle DeLatie sat down with the actor to talk about the strength he observes in families who are dealing with similar conditions, and how the positivity of each of them influences and inspires all others. Another topic of discussion is how the maturing of his daughter is a crucial element of the film, and under his character’s protection the dynamic changes greatly within the film. He also talks about how the film comments on the nature of true love, and when ‘tomorrow is promised to no-one’ the decisions they make have huge importance in the context of her life.

Midnight Sun in out in the US right now, and is released in the UK on the 30th of March.
