Though he may be a bit of a mixed bag, Adam Sandler’s films almost always do very well at the box office, and regardless of what you might think of the films themselves, they’re usually a pretty big commercial success.

I think everyone’s waiting for some sort of return from Sandler to his past prime, and whilst That’s My Boy might not quite be it, hopefully it’ll be a strong step along the way back.

Sony Pictures have now put out the red-band first trailer for the R-rated comedy, via The Playlist, which also stars Andy Samberg, Leighton Meester, and James Caan.

“While still in his teens, Donny (Adam Sandler) fathered a son, Todd (Andy Samberg), and raised him as a single parent up until Todd’s 18th birthday. Now, after not seeing each other for years, Todd’s world comes crashing down on the eve of his wedding when an uninvited Donny suddenly shows up. Trying desperately to reconnect with his son, Donny is now forced to deal with the repercussions of his bad parenting skills.”

Frequent collaborators Sean Anders and John Morris have co-directed the film, with a script first coming from David Caspe, followed by a rewrite by David Wain and Ken Marino, whose credits include Role Models and the upcoming Wanderlust (which looks brilliant), and Wain and Marino’s involvement definitely adds some potential to it.

If you’re in the US, you can look forward to seeing That’s My Boy on 15th June, and here in the UK, we’ll have to wait until 7th September. This new trailer definitely earns its red band, so if you’re reading this at work, come back later!
