Schindler’s List

schindler's list

Schindler’s list is possibly Hollywood’s most well known true story of WWII. Steven Spielberg’s 1993 drama, written by Steven Zaillian, is based on the novel Schindler’s Ark by Thomas Keneally. It tells the true story of Oskar Schindler, a German businessman who saved the lives of over a thousand Jewish refugees.

Oskar Schindler, played by Liam Neeson, initially relocates to Poland in order to cash in on cheap labour. eventually, though, he risks his own life by requesting refugees to work in his factories, claiming an increasing number of them as ‘essential personnel’, in order to save them from Nazi deathcamps. In the process, his money-making scheme threatens to bankrupt him, as he spends much of his personal fortune to keep as many Jewish refugees safe as he possibly can.

Schindler’s List won seven Oscars, and is a true masterpiece of cinema. Gut wrenching, terrifying and heartwarming all at once, it stands as one of Hollywood’s greatest war movies. Neeson’s performance is fantastic, the direction and editing phenomenal.
