Up until now, most comic book fans have assumed that Rachel McAdams (True Detective) will be playing Clea in Doctor Strange. For those of you unfamiliar with the character, she’s the niece of Dormammu, a powerful sorcerer, and actually ended up marrying Stephen.

However, it seems like the Scott Derrickson helmed Marvel movie will be taking things in a slightly different direction as a new report claims that McAdams has actually been cast as Christine Palmer, better known as Night Nurse. Doctor Strange did have a relationship with Night Nurse in the comics, but that was with the present day Linda Carter version.

So, why the change? Well, Linda was someone who ran an underground clinic for New York’s superheroes, while Christine was a surgical assistant. It could be that we’re getting a mixture of both characters then, with elements from both being used in Doctor Strange (bear in mind that Stephen is a surgeon, so it does make sense to have a character connected to that).

Doctor Strange’s relationship with Night Nurse was introduced in Doctor Strange: The Oath, a critically acclaimed limited series from writer Brian K. Vaughan and artist Marcos Martin.

It’s also worth noting that Rosario was originally cast in Daredevil as Night Nurse, but Marvel Studios put a stop to that and her role was changed to Claire Temple instead. We’ll have to wait and see how this one pans out, but regardless of who McAdams is playing, here’s hoping it’s a great female role!
