There is some eyebrow-raising news circling today, here we are concerned with the rumour that Quentin Tarantino has had talks with JJ Abrams concerning an idea he has for a new Star Trek movie for Paramount.

The idea floating around is that Tarantino wants to put together a writers room, in which a handful of screenwriters will hear his idea and go come up with a script worthy for a big screen production. If everything goes to plan, Tarantino could well direct the film with Abrams producing.

This would be the first time Tarantino has taken on an already established movie franchise after years of creating his own original productions. However, he has already dabbled in directing TV episodes for the likes of CSI and an episode of ER.

Paramount has been looking at ways in which they could build on the already existing franchise that has struggled in recent years to pull in audiences. With the untimely death of Anton Yelchin, it is looking highly unlikely the recent crew of Chris Pine, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto and Simon Pegg will be returning anytime soon for another instalment in the saga.

Tarantino’s next project will be for Sony Pictures, the as yet untitled production focuses on a male TV actor who’s had one hit series and his looking for a way to get into the film business. His sidekick— also his stunt double—is looking for the same thing. The horrific murder of Sharon Tate and four of her friends by Charles Manson’s cult of followers serves as a backdrop to the main story.

The film, which is said to cost in the region of $100 Million is set to have to male leads with Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio all said to be in talks with Tarantino to star. Margot Robbie is in lead position to take on the role of Sharon Tate.
