AMC turned Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead comic book series into a global phenomenon, and it’s hoped that the cable network will do the same for Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s upcoming adaptation of Garth Ennis’ critically acclaimed Preacher.

Slated to debut in May, the series is based on the popular, cult comic book franchise of the same name. Preacher is a supernatural, twisted and darkly comedic drama that follows a West Texas preacher named Jesse Custer, who is inhabited by a mysterious entity that causes him to develop a highly unusual power. Jesse, his badass ex-girlfriend Tulip and an Irish vagabond named Cassidy come together and when they do, they are thrust into a crazy world populated by a cast of characters from Heaven, Hell and everywhere in between.

It’s those three who are highlighted in the first official character images from the series, and there’s no denying that they all bear a resemblance to their comic book counterparts!

Conspicuous by his absence is the appropriately named Arseface, though there’s a very good chance that AMC are holding off on revealing that fan-favourite until the show premieres. Regardless, this one is definitely looking good so far and you can watch the trailer here.
