Christopher Nolan’s intricate, intellectual and provocative picture Memento is one of the great mystery thrillers of recent years, as our protagonist, played with a wonderful conviction by Guy Pearce, suffers from short-term memory loss and must piece together his wife’s murder through notes and tattoos.

The idea for a sequel takes a somewhat meta, self-referential approach – where Pearce’s Leonard has woken up and forgotten everything he just achieved, and then has to piece together everything that happened in the first movie all over again. By working his way through his own, past movements, he can then try and recreate the entire film, just to get him back to where he is now.

There’s a good chance this could be a little overwhelming and eventually make no sense at all. But hey, that worked for Inception.
