Out-of-the-Furnace-PosterAfter teasing the first poster and images from Scott Cooper’s anticipated Out of the Furnance this week, Relativity have now debuted the first trailer, giving us a very impressive first good look at what could well be a strong Oscar contender come the end of the year.

The film sees Christian Bale take centre stage once more, for the first time since last summer’s The Dark Knight Rises. And I cannot wait to see him and Casey Affleck alongside such a stellar cast.

From Scott Cooper, the critically-acclaimed writer and director of Crazy Heart, comes a gripping and gritty drama about family, fate, circumstance, and justice. Russell Baze (Christian Bale) has a rough life: he works a dead-end blue collar job at the local steel mill by day, and cares for his terminally ill father by night. When Russell’s brother Rodney (Casey Affleck) returns home from serving time in Iraq, he gets lured into one of the most ruthless crime rings in the Northeast and mysteriously disappears. The police fail to crack the case, so – with nothing left to lose – Russell takes matters into his own hands, putting his life on the line to seek justice for his brother. The impressive cast of Christian Bale and Casey Affleck are rounded out by Woody Harrelson, Forest Whitaker, Zoe Saldana, Sam Shepard and Willem Dafoe.

Joining Bale and Affleck will be Woody Harrelson, Forest Whitaker, Willem Dafoe, Zoë Saldana, Sam Shepard, and Boyd Holbrook.

Cooper (Crazy Heart) is making his sophomore feature as a director, direcint from a script he co-wrote with Brad Ingelsby (The Dynamiter, Hold on to Me), with Leonardo DiCaprio producing.

Out of the Furnace will begin its limited release in the States on November 27th, ahead of its UK release date on 29th November, before going wide in the US on December 6th. Whilst we count down the months, here’s the first trailer. Do you think we’re getting our first good look here at a strong contender come Oscar season?
