Disney’s latest animated feature, Wreck-It Ralph, looks almost a lock to be the best animated film of the year. The first trailer that debuted last month was brilliant, and everything we’ve seen before and since have promised nothing less.
With the Olympics now in full swing, a new wrestling-themed TV spot has debuted over at Yahoo Movies, with Jane Lynch (Glee) and Jack McBrayer (30 Rock) introducing us to the film and its world.
“Wreck-It Ralph (voice of Reilly) longs to be as beloved as his game’s perfect Good Guy, Fix-It Felix (voice of McBrayer). Problem is, nobody loves a Bad Guy. But they do love heroes… so when a modern, first-person shooter game arrives featuring tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Lynch), Ralph sees it as his ticket to heroism and happiness. He sneaks into the game with a simple plan—win a medal—but soon wrecks everything, and accidently unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens every game in the arcade. Ralph’s only hope? Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Silverman), a young troublemaking “glitch” from a candy-coated cart racing game who might just be the one to teach Ralph what it means to be a Good Guy. But will he realize he is good enough to become a hero before it’s “Game Over” for the entire arcade?”
Oscar-nominated John C. Reilly (Magnolia, Step Brothers) leads the voice cast as the eponymous Wreck-It Ralph, and is joined by the likes of Lynch, McBrayer, Sarah Silverman (Take This Waltz), Alan Tudyk (Serenity), Dennis Haysbert (24), and Ed O’Neill (Modern Family).
Twice Emmy-winning Rich Moore (The Simpsons, Futurama) is behind the camera, and his long history with animation is naturally very encouraging.
Wreck-It Ralph will be released in 3D in the US on 2nd November this year, before heading to the UK (rather unfortunately) a fair bit later for a 15th February, 2013 release. I have a feeling this will almost certainly be a strong contender in the Best Animated Film category at the Oscars, so we’ll have just enough time to enjoy it on the big screen before the results are in on 24th February.
