We got our first look at Kathryn Bigelow’s controversial follow-up to her Oscar-winning The Hurt Locker this week, with the release of the first teaser trailer and images from the film.

Following that promising debut, we’ve now got a pretty excellent first poster to share, playing up the secrecy within the film (perhaps as well as accusations, which Bigelow has denied, that the filmmakers were given access to classified information).

“For a decade, an elite team of intelligence and military operatives, working in secret across the globe, devoted themselves to a single goal: to find and eliminate Osama bin Laden. Zero Dark Thirty reunites the Oscar® winning team of director-producer Kathryn Bigelow and writer-producer Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker) for the story of history’s greatest manhunt for the world’s most dangerous man.”

The cast is one of the best of the year, headed up by Jessica Chastain, Mark Strong, Joel Edgerton, Kyle Chandler, Jason Clarke, Scott Adkins, Jennifer Ehle, Chris Pratt, Édgar Ramirez, Frank Grillo, Nash Edgerton, and a welcome surprise in Mark Duplass, with Ricky Sekhon taking the role of bin Laden himself.

Bigelow is once more directing from a script by Mark Boal, who won an Oscar for his screenplay for The Hurt Locker, and the two are producing alongside the brilliant Megan Ellison (True Grit, PTA’s upcoming The Master).

Zero Dark Thirty will hit US theatres on 19th December this year, putting it in prime position for an awards run, and is set to arrive in the UK on 25th January, by which time we’ll know if it’s heading for the Oscars. As usual with this first poster, you can click to enlarge.
