Making its debut as the Closing Night Film at this year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival, Not Another Happy Ending marks the leading feature debut of Karen Gillan, best known for her work as Amy Pond on Doctor Who.
The first trailer surfaced over the summer, ahead of its bow up in Edinburgh. And with its UK release on the horizon next month, Kaleidoscope has released the new trailer along with a lo-res look at the UK quad poster.
NOT ANOTHER HAPPY ENDING tells the story of a young writer who, following the success of her debut novel has a severe case of writer’s block.
When struggling, maverick publisher Tomas Duval (Stanley Weber) discovers his only successful author Jane Lockhart (Karen Gillan) is blocked he knows he has to unblock her or he’s finished – with her newfound success, she’s become too damn happy and she can’t write when she’s happy. The only trouble is, the worse he makes her feel, the more he realises he is in love with her…
Stanley Weber stars opposite Gillan as her character’s publisher, Tom, with Henry Ian Cusick, Iain de Caestecker, Freya Mavor, Amy Manson, Gary Lewis, and Kate Dickie joining the leading duo.
John McKay (Life on Mars) directs from a script written by David Solomons.
With Gillan soon to be seen in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy next summer, which is sure to be one of the biggest and in all likelihood best movies of next year, things are certainly looking good for her career in features after completing her arc on Doctor Who.
Not Another Happy Ending will be released in the UK on 11th October. Still no word yet on a US release date, but here’s to hoping it will be crossing the Atlantic in some form later this year or early next. For now, here’s the new trailer, which teases a little new footage from the first trailer towards the end.
