When Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) takes a pre-wedding trip to Verona with her fiancé (Gael Garcia Bernal), the last thing she expects to be doing is spending her time alone.
Bored and anxious for inspiration, the budding writer chances upon Juliet Capulet’s Courtyard and a wall full of heartfelt letters that the lovesick have left for the fictional character, desperately hoping for a response from one of the secretaries of Juliet, a group of women who respond to each and every note.
After discovering an unread letter dated 1957, Sophie determinedly responds but when Claire (Vanessa Redgrave), the author of the note sensationally arrives in Verona alongside her uptight grandson (Christopher Egan), Sophie is drawn into a quest to find Claire’s long-lost love, and embarks on an romantic adventure of her own, one that she could never have imagined.
