Walter Salles’ highly anticipated On the Road adaptation debuted to largely excellent reviews back at Cannes this year, and it will be getting its UK premiere tonight as part of the Film4 Summer Screen Series.

We caught a brilliant new trailer for the film last week, and now a new Australian poster for the film has surfaced online, which is similar to the main one we’ve seen already, but no longer features the rear-view mirror, but has a rather awesome new font for the title instead.

“After the death of his father, Sal Paradise, an aspiring New York writer, meets Dean Moriarty, a wild and infectiously charismatic ex-con. They hit it off immediately. Determined to avoid the pitfalls of a narrow, prescribed life, Sal hits the road, joining Dean on what evolves into a life-changing physical and emotional odyssey. Thirsting for freedom, they discover the world, the ecstasy of experience, the connectedness of humanity and ultimately themselves.”

Garrett Hedlund, Sam Riley, and Kristen Stewart lead the all-star cast, and are joined by Amy Adams, Tom Sturridge, Alice Braga, Elisabeth Moss, Kirsten Dunst, and Viggo Mortensen.

Salles is directing from a script his writer for The Motorcycle Diaries, Jose Rivera, adapting (of course) the original novel by Jack Kerouac, and though Craig wasn’t especially impressed with it back in May – you can read his review here – I have a feeling it’s going to be one of my favourite films of the year.

On the Road will be released in the UK on 12th October, before heading to the US on 21st December, which puts it very much in prime position for an awards campaign heading into the Oscar season. For now, enjoy this new international poster for the film, and as usual, you can click to enlarge.
