Unbroken

Universal have released the first full-length trailer for Unbroken, the WWII drama directed by Angelina Jolie. Starring Jack O’Connell as the heroic Louis Zamperini (who passed away last week), it tells the story of the former Olympian and WWII bombardier whose plane crashed at sea in 1943.

After floating adrift in shark infested waters for 47 days and over 2000 miles, Zamperini – who competed in the 1936 Berlin Olympics as a distance runner – and two crew mates were caught by the Japanese Navy and sent to a POW camp where Zamperini was targeted by a sadistic overseer.

Unbroken has already been named as an early contender for “Best Picture” at next year’s Academy Awards, and it quickly becomes apparent that Jolie has had no trouble moving from in front of the camera to behind it. Unbroken is adapted from Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand. It also looks set to be the biggest project to date for Starred Up’s Jack O’Connell.

Academy Award® winner Angelina Jolie directs and produces Unbroken, an epic drama that follows the incredible life of Olympian and war hero Louis “Louie” Zamperini (Jack O’Connell) who, along with two other crewmen, survived in a raft for 47 days after a near-fatal plane crash in WWII—only to be caught by the Japanese Navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp. Adapted from Laura Hillenbrand’s (“Seabiscuit: An American Legend”) enormously popular book, Unbroken brings to the big screen Zamperini’s unbelievable and inspiring true story about the resilient power of the human spirit.

Also starring Domhnall Gleeson, Miyavi, Garrett Hedlund, and Finn Wittrock, Unbroken is set to be released on Christmas Day in the US and on Boxing Day here in the UK.
