Olivia Thirlby will be in UK theatres this weekend as one of the leading trio in Dredd 3D, but before then, Ry Russo-Young’s Nobody Walks will be available through Video on Demand in the US this Thursday.

The film debuted to excellent reviews at Sundance, and came to Sundance London a few months later, where I fell in love with it. The brilliant first trailer and poster landed last month, and now we’ve got a handful of new images to share before its VoD release.

“Martine, a 23-year-old artist from New York, arrives in Los Angeles to stay in the pool house of a family living in the hip and hilly community of Silver Lake. Peter, the father, has agreed to help Martine complete sound design on her art film as a favor to his wife. Martine innocently enters the seemingly idyllic life of this open-minded family with two kids and a relaxed Southern California vibe. Like a bolt of lightning, her arrival sparks a surge of energy that awakens suppressed impulses in everyone and forces them to confront their own fears and desires. Exquisitely orchestrated by Ry Russo-Young (You Won’t Miss Mescreened at the 2009 Festival) and cowritten by Lena Dunham (Tiny Furniture), this potent charting of inner urges and sufferings links characters in an intricate dance of lust, denial, and deception.”

John Krasinski, Rosemarie DeWitt, Justin Kirk, Dylan McDermott, and the excellent young India Ennenga complete the cast brilliantly, with Russo-Young directing from a script she co-wrote with the great Lena Dunham.

Thirlby gives a remarkable performance here, making for one of the finest indie films I’ve seen in years.

Nobody Walks will be released through VoD this Thursday, 6th September, before heading into US theatres on 12th October. No word yet on a UK release, but I’d love to see it arrive on our shores before the year’s end. For now, enjoy these new images, and be sure to watch the film through VoD this week, and again on the big screen next month. You won’t regret it.
