It’s been a long time coming to these shore, almost six months after the US release in point of fact, but George Lucas’s Red Tails enters UK cinemas on the 6th of June so it’s high time to remind ourselves of Anthony Hemingway’s tale of the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African-American pilots to fly in a combat squadron in World War II.

The film has a pretty fine cast and stars Terrence Howard, Daniela Ruah, Bryan Cranston, Nate Parker, David Oyelowo, Method Man, Ryan Early, Elijah Kelley, Robert Kazinsky and Cuba Gooding Jr so among the many dizzying aerial sequences there’s bound to be some character thrown in right?

It’ll be interesting to see how heavily Lucas’s hand rests on this film given that it’s a non-Jedi project, and one which has been on his radar for quite some time; remember also that this is Hemingway’s first feature after a diverse stint as a director of American television.
