Tom Hooper’s Les Misérables, his follow-up to 2010’s worldwide success, The King’s Speech, is naturally one of the most highly anticipated films of the year.

The first trailer debuted back in May, giving an incredible look at the film, which Hooper announced last year would feature the cast singing live in front of cameras, rather than recorded in studios, which is definitely exciting.

The all-star cast is headed up by Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Sacha Baron Cohen, Eddie Redmayne, Samantha Barks, and Helena Bonham Carter, and we’ve now got a new look at Jackman and Hathaway as Jean Valjean and Fantine.

“Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption—a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.”

Hooper is directing from a script by William Nicholson (Gladiator, Shadowlands), who adapts the original classic novel of the same name by Victor Hugo and the world-famous stage musical.

Les Misérables will be released in the US on 14th December, followed a few weeks later on 11th January, 2013 here in the UK. With such stellar talent on both sides of the camera, the expectations are already running on high, with significant buzz as we head into the awards season. For now, enjoy this new look at Hathaway and Jackman, and as usual, you can click to enlarge.
