Coming out of Toronto International Film Festival last year with everyone singing its praises as The Raid made its world debut, Gareth Evans’ Indonesian actioner has been growing in critical acclaim and audience anticipation ever since.

Jamie saw the film at the Glasgow Film Festival last month and loved it – you can read his five-star review of the film here – and we now have a new clip to share with you from the film, courtesy of Yahoo Movies, which sees the elite special forces team taking out a guard as they make their way into the building.

“Rama, a member of a special forces team, arrives at a rundown apartment block with a mission to remove its owner, a notorious drug lord. The building has become a sanctuary to killers, gangs, rapists and thieves seeking accommodation in the one place they know they cannot be touched by the police. When a spotter blows their cover, Rama [Iko Uwais] and his team must fight their way through every floor and every room not just to complete their mission but to survive their bloody ordeal.”

Sony Pictures picked up the US distribution rights, and set Mike Shinoda (of Linkin Park/Fort Minor fame) and Joseph Trapanese (TRON: Legacy) the task of composing a new score for the film, which has only increased how much I want to see it after reading the great reviews from Toronto.

Evans and lead Iko Uwais are set to return with the original’s sequel, Berandal, and a US remake is already in development too.

The Raid: Redemption (the subtitle has been added since its debut, presumably to accommodate for the follow-up(s)) will be released in the US on 23rd March before coming to the UK on 18th May. If you’re a fan of action and Asian (martial arts) cinema, it looks like this is definitely one to watch out for. And for everything else we’ve seen of the film so far, click here.
