Hoping to improve on the reception of last year’s Cars sequel, Pixar have come up with an original film for this year and Brave is looking better and better.

The team from Emeryville have always been at their best when a new world is being created, not to take anything away from the third Toy Story film of course, but with plans afoot for a 3D re-release of some of Pixar’s finest it’s good to remember that they can knock out some stunning original films. Brave looks to be no exception.

You can see all of our Brave coverage here and the recent clip and Japanese trailer are worth checking out as they give an excellent feel for the tone of the film, as well as featuring some great voice work.

Kelly Macdonald voices our flame-haired heroine and Emma Thompson, Billy Connolly, Julie Walters, Robbie Coltrane, and Craig Ferguson lend their vocal cords to Pixar’s latest.

Here’s the new TV spot, it’s nothing mind-blowing but I’m finally warming to the character design and overall feel of the film, as much as is possible for a trailer or two to allow.

Synopsis hit.

Brave is set in the mystical Scottish Highlands, where Merida is the princess of a kingdom ruled by King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson). An unruly daughter and an accomplished archer, Merida one day defies a sacred custom of the land and inadvertently brings turmoil to the kingdom. In an attempt to set things right, Merida seeks out an eccentric old Wise Woman (Julie Walters) and is granted an ill-fated wish. Also figuring into Merida’s quest — and serving as comic relief — are the kingdom’s three lords: the enormous Lord MacGuffin (Kevin McKidd), the surly Lord Macintosh (Craig Ferguson), and the disagreeable Lord Dingwall (Robbie Coltrane).”
