Elizabeth Olsen has become very much one-to-watch in the past year, with her debut at last year’s Sundance getting a strong critical reception with both Martha Marcy May Marlene and Silent House.

The former was released here in the UK last month, introducing us to Olsen in her feature debut, and the latter, the real-time horror Silent House, will be with us soon. We’ve seen a handful of things from the film already, and now have a new TV spot to share, cutting together clips from the film with audience’s reactions from an early screening out in the US.

“SILENT HOUSE is a uniquely unsettling horror thriller starring Elizabeth Olsen as Sarah, a young woman who finds herself sealed inside her family’s secluded lake house. With no contact to the outside world, and no way out, panic turns to terror as events become increasingly ominous in and around the house. Directed by filmmaking duo Chris Kentis and Laura Lau, SILENT HOUSE uses meticulous camera choreography to take the audience on a tension-filled, real time journey, experienced in a single uninterrupted shot.”

The idea of having the film unfold in real-time sounds brilliant to me, and I can’t wait to see how it turns out in the darkened cinema on the big screen. The film is inspired by a true story (as many horror films are) and is an adaptation of the original Uruguayan film, The Silent House, with Open Water collaborators Chris Kentis and Laura Lau co-directing from a script by Lau, who makes her directorial debut with this.

Silent House will be coming to theatres in the US tomorrow, on 9th March, before being released here in the UK a couple of months later on 4th May. Here’s the new TV spot to give you a taste of what we’re in for.
