Natalie Portman has jumped on board HBO Film’s ‘The Days of Abandonment.

Based on the Elena Ferrante novel, Portman will play the role of Tess, a woman who abandoned her own dreams for a stable home life, is in turn abandoned by her husband, her world is thrown off its axis.

Maggie Betts will not only pen and executive produce the project but also takes up the director’s chair. Portman will also executive produce in addition to starring along with Sophie Mas under the pair’s Mountain A production banner. Celine Rattray and Trudie Styler of Maven Screen Media will also executive produce, as will Len Amato of Crash&Salvage, Ferrante, Domenico Procacci of Fandango, and Maria Zuckerman. “The Days of Abandonment” will be produced in association with Medusa.

Portman’s upcoming projects include the Apple TV series ‘Lady in the Lake’ an adaptation of the Laura Lipman novel in which she will star opposite Lupita Nyong’o. Portman will also feature in Taika Waititi’s upcoming ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ and ‘What If…?’ for Marvel.
