When it was first revealed that Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures were teaming up to reboot the Spider-Man franchise, many fans hoped that it would be Miles Morales wearing the costume as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s wall-crawler. For those of you unfamiliar with the hero, he took over from Peter Parker in the Ultimate Universe following his demise at the hands of the Green Goblin and is both younger and has a variety of different powers.However, Kevin Feige made it clear early on that they always wanted Peter Parker and Miles is instead set to appear in an upcoming animated movie from Sony.

In the movie, Donald Glover plays Aaron Davis, a character better known to comic books fans as the Prowler and the Ultimate Universe’s version of the villain is the uncle of Miles Morales and plays a key role in that Spider-Man’s origin story. In Spider-Man: Homecoming, Aaron reportedly mentions his “nephew” and it’s now been confirmed by Feige that that was indeed a reference to the fan-favourite hero in this shared universe.

After revealing that, the Marvel boss tempered expectations somewhat by making it clear that there aren’t necessarily any immediate plans for Miles to make his presence felt in a live-action setting. “In the meantime, I think Miles is a big part of the animated movie that Sony’s making. But where we go… we definitely want you to go ‘[Miles] is there. He’s there somewhere.’” The door is open to some sort of appearance then, but it could be years before that happens!
