Michael-PeñaFollowing the news that Michael Douglas will be playing original Ant-Man Hank Pym (with Paul Rudd as his successor, Scott Lang), it has now been revealed that Michael Peña (End of Watch, American Hustle) has been offered a role in the Edgar Wright-helmed movie.

As you might expect, Marvel has denied that he’s in negotiations, but this would be far from the first time the extremely secretive studio has pulled such a move.

Ant-Man tells the story of Hank Pym and the burglar (Scott Lang) who later steals his suit and shrinking gas in a bid to help his seriously ill daughter. It’s believed that the movie will take place in both the 1960s and the present day, with the older Pym later serving as a mentor to Scott as he attempts to become a hero.

The news was first reported by The Wrap, but the other trades have since run with the story. Unfortunately, there’s currently no word on who Peña will be playing in the movie, and seeing as Ant-Man is one of Marvel’s more obscure characters, not a lot of names jump to mind when it comes to the supporting casts of either Hank Pym or Scott Lang!

Insiders apparently claim that the role is that of a “tough Latino” who should be ready for a lot of action, and the last major role to cast is that of the lead female (most likely Janet Van Dyne/The Wasp), with Rashida Jones and Bryce Dallas Howard currently among those apparently being considered.

Shooting is expected to begin in April, while Ant-Man is currently set to be released on July 31st, 2015.
