THR is reporting that Michael Clarke Duncan is in negotiations to be the voice of Kilowog in the upcoming Green Lantern movie, which is currently in post-production and due to come out here on 17th June this year. News came a couple of weeks ago that Geoffrey Rush would be lending his voice to the cast as Tomar-Re, and now it looks like we’ll be having another supremely excellent actor giving his voice for the film.

Duncan got his first big break playing Bear in Armageddon, and this was quickly followed up with the role he is most well-known for, playing John Coffey in The Green Mile, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award, but beaten to the post by Michael Caine in The Cider House Rules. Since then, he’s gone on to star in a pretty solid list of big and small films, including things as diverse as Daredevil and Brother Bear.

His character, Kilowog, for the upcoming Green Lantern film,

“is a drill sergeant trainer of new recruits for the Green Lantern Corps, the intergalactic police force that patrols the universe.”

If any among you have seen Kung Fu Panda (and if you haven’t, take 90 minutes out of your day today and watch it), you’ll know that he’s got the ability to give a voice to bring that role to life. Duncan just has one of those booming voices that emanates power, and will certainly be capable of whipping the new recruits for the Green Lantern Corps into shape.

Everything about this film has been so promising, from the casting announcements when it was just starting to take shape right through to the pictures released of Ryan Reynolds in his suit a few days ago. I don’t know about all of you, but I cannot wait for the release date to finally roll around. I think this could definitely be one of the biggest films of the summer. Edge of Darkness aside, this will be Martin Campbell’s biggest film since 2006’s Casino Royale, and I really hope that it will do well.

Ryan Reynolds, taking the lead role, was very well received for his role in Buried last year, and I think he more than deserves to be taking on bigger and bigger roles like this. The film will also see Blake Lively taking her first role since The Town last year (a brilliant, brilliant film), along with Peter Sarsgaard, Tim Robbins, and Mark Strong, whose increasing rise to fame seems to be unstoppable. With Duncan now added to the already impeccable cast, it seems its success is all but guaranteed.
