Ever since Scarlett Johansson took on the role of Black Widow in Jon Favereau’s Iron Man 2, film fans have been speculating whether the character will star in her very own spin-off film.

Well, it seems Marvel have now answered that very question.

At a press conference to promote the US Blu-ray and DVD release of Iron Man 2, Marvel’s Kevin Feige confirmed that a Black Widow spin-off film is already in the works. He said,

“We’ve already started discussions with Scarlett [Johansson] about the idea of a solo movie and have begun putting together concepts, but ‘The Avengers’ comes first.”

There, you now have your confirmation. Speculation can now shift to rumors about villains, casting and when the film will actually be released. However, with The Avengers not being released until May 2012, don’t expect it anytime soon.

How do you feel about the news? Are you looking forward to a stand-alone Black Widow film? Do you think Scarlett Johansson has what it takes to carry a high-risk superhero film, or will it end up like Catwoman?
