Warner Bros. are developing a number of TV shows based on their DC Comics properties, with Supergirl easily one of the most highly anticipated. The pilot was written by Ali Adler (No Ordinary Family) and Greg Berlanti (Arrow), and while it’s still early days, it wouldn’t be surprising to see it reach us by next Autumn.

What makes us say that? Well, casting has already begun, and the team who found Stephen Amell for Arrow and Grant Gustin for The Flash are working on finding a suitable lead to play Superman’s cousin, Supergirl!

According to a new report, the hunt is currently on for Caucasian females, age 22 to 26, to play the 24 year old Supergirl. In the show, Kara Zor-El will have still been sent from Krypton, but is now known as Kara Danvers. Apparently, she arrived on Earth at the age of 12 and was taken in by the Danvers, a foster family who taught her to be careful with her extraordinary powers. After repressing said skills for more than a decade, Kara is forced to bust out her super moves in public during an unexpected disaster.

It’s after this event that Kara is energized by her heroism for the first time in her life and begins embracing her abilities in the name of helping the people of her city, earning herself a “super” moniker along the way.

This take on Supergirl is a loose adaptation of the comic books then, as is evident from the fact that they’re also looking to cat 26 year old Alexandra “Alex” Danvers. She’s described as Kara’s gorgeous, brilliant, science-minded foster sister. Growing up, Alex was partly jealous of her sibling yet also fascinated by her abilities, prompting Alex to learn as much as she could about alien anthropology, sociology and culture.

Today, Alex works for a secret government organization and, alongside her heroic sis, will face many challenges, both mundane and super. Though the “Danvers” name was linked to one of the versions of Supergirl in the comic books, this sounds like a very original and unique take on the character.

It’s not clear whether or not Superman will play any sort of role in the series, but it’s rumoured that he will!
