Black Panther’s Lupita Nyong’o is currently in negotiations to star in the remake of John Woo’s classic action adventure, The Killer.

The remake, which has a female twist to the original, is said to be a blistering thriller that blends espionage with extraordinary stunts. It will focus on an assassin who is sworn to protect a young woman she accidentally blinded during a mob hit years prior.

John Woo returns to direct the remake on his own film which comes from Universal Pictures.  eOne’s Mark Gordon (Source CodeSaving Private Ryan) and Matt Jackson will produce with Luc Etienne serving as executive producer.

The 1989 Hong Kong action thriller, was written and directed by Woo focused on Mob assassin Jeffrey (Chow Yun-Fat). A hired gun; the best in his business, he views his chosen profession as a calling rather than simply a job. So, when beautiful nightclub chanteuse Jennie (Sally Yeh) is blinded in the crossfire of his most recent hit, Jeffrey chooses to retire after one last job to pay for his unintended victim’s sight-restoring operation. But when Jeffrey is double-crossed, he reluctantly joins forces with a rogue policeman (Danny Lee) to make things right.

As well as being a force to be reckoned with in Black Panther, Nyong’o has cemented her self within the Star Wars universe as the voice of Maz Kanata in the TV movies. Her next project is Little Monsters with Josh Gad and she is also rumoured to be in the Charlie’s Angels remake which is due to be released in 2019.
