A report recently started doing the rounds about the identity of Star-Lord’s father in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, but writer and director James Gunn wasted no time in taking to his social media accounts to make it clear that the rumour was entirely false.

That’s actually a major relief, especially as the mystery surrounding the character is just as exciting as Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ many secrets! However, while we may not know who Star-Lord is going to end up calling dad, a new report seemingly reveals who will play him. According to The Wrap, Furious 7’s Kurt Russell is currently Gunn’s top choice!

The actor hasn’t read the script just yet apparently, but he’s expected to start meeting with Marvel soon, and is named as Gunn’s top choice for this key Guardians of the Galaxy role.

Russell has already impressed this year in Bone Tomahawk, and will soon be seen in Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight. He also recently joined the cast of Deepwater Horizon.

Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 is set to be released on May 5th, 2017, with production kicking off early next year in Atlanta. With that in mind, this news will hopefully be made official by Marvel soon, because Russell joining the MCU would be a huge win for them!
