The thought of seeing Kate Upton in Harry Potter spinoff/prequel Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was nice while it lasted, but following the news that Eddie Redmayne will play magiczoologist Newt Scamander, it appears as if Warner Bros. and director David Yates have found their American female lead.

There are actually two major female roles to be filled; Newt’s sister Queenie and a character called Tina.

It’s the latter that Inherent Vice’s Katherine Waterston will end up playing in Fantastic Beasts, a solid casting choice for sure. It sounds like she’ll appear both in this movie – written by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling – and the two planned sequels. Short for Porpentia, Tina is a witch living in the U.S. who crosses paths with Scamander when he stops in New York City on his travels to find and document magical creatures.

The hunt is now on for Fantastic Beasts’ Queenie and a character called Jacob who is said to be Newt’s rival.

The last reported shortlist for Queenie included Saoirse Ronan, Dakota Fanning, Lili Simmons (Banshee), and Alison Sudol, while Steve Zissis (Togetherness), Zack Pearlman (Mulaney), and Dan Fogler (Fanboys) were reportedly among the actors testing for Jacob. The movie is set to be released on November 18th, 2016.
