After the mixed response to the Jurassic Park sequels, last year’s Jurassic World was thankfully well-received by fans and a huge hit at the box office. As a result, it probably shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise to learn that a third instalment will follow the already confirmed sequel (which will be helmed by J.A. Bayona instead of Colin Trevorrow).

During a recent interview, Bayona talked about following the vision set out by his predecessor and what he hopes to bring to the table in terms of some new ideas.

“It’s very interesting,” he said after confirming that the script is still in the early stages. “The whole Jurassic World is a trilogy that Colin Trevorrow has envisioned. We’re writing the second chapter, and it’s very interesting where he’s leading the story. I grew up watching Steven Spielberg movies and I love those movies and the legacy, so it’s a question of being truthful to the legacy and at the same time, bringing new stuff that people will appreciate. We are still six months ahead of shooting, and so far, so good. It’s very exciting right now.”

Where exactly the next two Jurassic World movies are going to go remains to be seen, but it’s unlikely that we’ll go back to that theme park setting based on the events of the last movie. Rumours and past comments from Trevorrow have pointed to the sequel delving into the idea of dinosaurs being used by the government as weapons, something the first teased.

Jurassic World 2 is set to be released on June 22nd, 2018, so stay tuned for further updates.
