Last month, there came the awesome news that Jim Carrey might be joining the cast of Kick-Ass 2, set to begin shooting this week.

And now it looks like it’s all but official.

Jeff Wadlow, the director taking the reigns from Matthew Vaughn, put out this rather awesome tweet at the weekend:

To which Christopher Mintz-Plasse replied, and then original comic book writer, Mark Millar, responded,

For those of you who’ve seen Carrey’s brilliant work in Ace Ventura and The Mask, you’ll know that this a reference to Mr. Jim Carrey, himself, and it looks like it’s pretty much official, with shooting starting at the end of this week, that he’s going to be taking the role of Colonel Stars.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chloë Grace Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and Nicolas Cage will reprising their original roles – with the film shifting back in time for Cage’s parts – along with Lyndsy Fonseca and Yancy Butler, with Donald Faison, John Leguizamo, Lindy Booth, and Andy Nyman heading up the new cast members. And it’s looking pretty much certain that Carrey will be joining them.

Kick-Ass 2 is set for release in the US on 28th June, 2013 and the UK on 19th July, 2013, naturally making it one of the most anticipated films of next summer. Kick-Ass was a big success, taking just shy of $100m. from its $28m. budget, and we’re all expecting Kick-Ass 2 to rise to the challenge and outperform the original. More as we get it. (I highly recommend the Spielberg tribute below, especially.)

Since graduating, I spend as much time as possible watching films/TV shows, reading books, and listening to music. So getting to write about what I love is nothing short of awesome. Biggest film-related hope for 2014/ever: Guy Ritchie announcing the RocknRolla sequel is finally moving forward.
