Director Mark Pellington has had a pretty successful career so far in both the music and the film world, directing music videos for The Fray, Michael Jackson, Foo Fighters, Bruce Springsteen, and many more great artists.

His film credits also include 1999’s terrific Arlington Road, starring Jeff Bridges, Tim Robbins, and Joan Cusack, and his upcoming film, I Melt With You, is definitely something to look forward to.

Yahoo Movies have got the film’s great first poster and three new images from it, and they all look promising for what should be a great film. I Melt With You premiered at Sundance earlier in the year, where it sold to Magnolia Pictures. According to the press release, via Collider,

““Mark Pellington has made a maverick, stylish and powerful film that resonates for days after viewing,” said Magnolia SVP Tom Quinn. “Thomas Jane, Rob Lowe, Jeremy Piven and Christian McKay give some of the best performances of their entire careers and attention must be paid.””

That cast of Jane, Lowe, Piven, and McKay is definitely one to look forward to, with Piven and Lowe being two of my personal favourites, great in everything they star in.

“When four 40-something college friends meet up for their annual reunion, things start to spiral out of control.”

That basic premise might not be anything groundbreaking, but it was really well received after Sundance, and it sounds like it will be excellent, a different take on The Hangover idea with characters half a generation older, drinking more alcohol and taking more drugs, and having a much bigger sense of drama and thriller combined. It should be awesome.

FirstShowing have also got the film’s awesome new trailer, which is very much red band and not suitable for work, filled with drink, drugs, and driving, all combined, and all looking set for an excellent movie. A Lost Weekend, but so much more than that.

There’s no word yet on a release date here or in the States, but with any luck, we’ll both be getting it sometime soon. Until then, here is I Melt With You’s brilliant red band trailer, followed by the film’s first poster and then the three new images to enjoy. As usual with all of them, click to enlarge.

Since graduating, I spend as much time as possible watching films/TV shows, reading books, and listening to music. So getting to write about what I love is nothing short of awesome. Biggest film-related hope for 2014/ever: Guy Ritchie announcing the RocknRolla sequel is finally moving forward.
