Heath Ledger’s take on The Joker in The Dark Knight is a near impossible act to follow, but according to a new report, Warner Bros. are eyeing Dallas Buyers Club star Jared Leto to play The Clown Prince of Crime!

It’s not in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice or a Batman solo movie however, as the iconic villain will instead appear in Suicide Squad, the 2016 movie from Fury helmer David Ayer.

Suicide Squad focuses on a team of villains, and Tom Hardy, Will Smith and Margot Robbie are all said to be in various stages of discussions for key roles in the DC Comics adaptation (which you can learn more about by clicking here). Jesse Eisenberg is also being courted to reprise his Batman v Superman role as Lex Luthor.

Ryan Gosling was at one point connected to Suicide Squad, and it has now been revealed that that was in fact The Joker. However, the prospect of signing a deal spanning multiple movies apparently put him off.

Leto won a number of awards for his role in Dallas Buyers Club, and though The Joker is an incredibly hard character to bring to life on the big screen (especially following what would end up being Heath Ledger’s final performance), he does actually seem like an ideal candidate!
