‘Room’ and ‘Wonder’ star, Jacob Tremblay has signed up for ‘The Shining’ sequel ‘Doctor Sleep’ for an unknown role.
Trembley joins the cast with Ewan McGregor leading as the adult Danny Torrance; the son of Jack Torrance as played by Jack Nicholson in the Kubrick film. Rebecca Ferguson also stars as the leader of the cult while Carl Lumbly, Bruce Greenwood, Alex Essoe and Zahn McClarnon have supporting roles.
The current synopsis making the rounds reads:
Danny Torrance (Ewan McGregor) carries the trauma of the Overlook Hotel into adulthood and has become a reflection of his murderous father, with lingering rage and a drinking problem that dulls his pain as well as his ‘shining’ powers.
Those powers return when he embraces sobriety and uses his gift to help the dying at a hospice. He establishes a psychic connection with a girl (Kyleigh Curran) who shares his extreme abilities, and who is being targeted by a cult who make others like them suffer painful deaths in order to absorb their powers.
Mike Flanagan, who directed King’s Gerald’s Game, will again take the helm on the project. Trevor Macy and Jon Berg are producing.
Stanley Kubrick directed the original adaptation of “The Shining,” starring Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall. At the time of the release, the film bombed but went on to become a cult classic.
Tremblay had his big breakthrough in Lenny Abrahamson’s ‘Room’ opposite Brie Larson. He has since gone on to star in ‘The Book of Henry’, ‘Wonder’ and most recently Shane Black’s ‘The Predator’. The young star will next be seen in ‘The Death and Life of John F. Donovan.
