Idris Elba has entered into final negotiations to play the bad guy in Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham’s Fast and Furious spin-off, Hobbs and Shaw.

Elba, who will be making his directorial debut with Yardie this summer, is said to be the villain both Hobbs and Shaw have to take out. He could very well be joining The Crown’s Vanessa Kirby who is also in final talks to take on the role of Shaw’s sister.

Deadpool 2 director David Leitch is on board in the director’s chair, with Johnson and Statham reprising their roles as special agent Luke Hobbs and criminal mastermind Deckard Shaw.

Fast and Furious’ Chris Morgan has penned the script in which Neal Moritz will produce. Johnson will also serve as a producer alongside his Seven Bucks Productions partners, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia, Jason Statham, and Chris Morgan for his eponymous production company. Kelly McCormick, Steve Chasman, Amanda Lewis, Ainsley Davies and Ethan Smith executive produce.

Exec Vice President of Production Mark Sourian and Vice President Jay Polidoro will oversee the project at Universal.

With production due to start, this autumn, Plot details are being kept top secret.

Elba has been a busy boy in the last 12 months, as well as spinning the decks in various nightspots, he has also been producing his own music too. That’s not all the multi-talented heart-throb has also been seen in films such as the Dark Tower, Molly’s Game, Thor: Ragnarok, and The Mountain Between Us. He is also currently producing the Netflix series Turn Up, Charlie.
