Star Trek fan Pascal van der Heiden has only boldly gone and built a home computer system which mirrors the LCARS interface as found on the deck of the Enterprise (as demonstrated in the video below).

It serves as a multi-functional, time-saving device which has everything from a shopping list app and rain radar (?), to a Library & Media player (connected to his home cinema), as well as functioning as a normal Internet browser too. It all looks very technical and suitably Star Trek-like.

No word yet if van der Heiden is planning on installing a transportation system in the spare bedroom or if he intends to use Dilithium crystals as an cheap, alternative energy source to power his home, but he does have some future plans:

More will be added as I get ideas and time to develop them. Why don’t I control my home lights with this? Because the needed hardware costs a LOT and the light switch next to the door is more practical in the end anyway. Maybe some day I will add it just because it is cool.

Budgetary reasons are probably why he hasn’t transformed his iPhone into a Tricorder yet. Shame.
