It’s no surprise that Hollywood has turned to World Cinema for inspiration in recent years with the number of remakes getting more and more popular.

Whilst it remains to be seen how many of these remakes go on to succeed or stay true to their original story counterparts, we decided it was high-time we turned the spotlight onto the next wave of foreign films to grace our screens.

Giselle in 3D

UK Cinema Release Date: Tuesday 29th March 2011

The beautiful production from the internationally acclaimed Mariinsky Theatre stars Natalia Osipova as Giselle and Leonid Sarafanov as Count Albert. Telling the story of a simple village girl who falls deeply in love with a dashing prince disguised as a peasant. The idyllic pastoral scene is shattered by an act of betrayal and the ensuing heartbreak. In the ballet blanc second act, Giselle haunts the stage with her host of vengeful spirits, but ultimately the strength of her love transcends even death and bestows forgiveness upon her repentant lover.

12 Angry Lebanese: The Documentary

Synopsis: For 15 months, 45 inmates, some completely illiterate, worked together to present an adaptation of Reginald Rose’s famous stage play 12 Angry Men (known worldwide through the Sidney Lumet film starring Henry Fonda). Daccache added monologues, songs and dance routines created by the prisoners to the original text. A must see, this remarkable documentary includes rehearsals, drama therapy sessions and interviews, revealing the tremendous dignity and despair of the prisoners as well as the charismatic Daccache’s boundless energy and patience. Synopsis: Nuno is a man working at a hot dog stand, who also invented a machine which promises to revolutionize the shoe industry- a foot scanner. In the middle of a gasoline embargo and finding himself in a strange predicament, Nuno becomes mysteriously confined to his car, finding his life suddenly embargoed.

Louise-Michel

Synopsis: What to do when the workers of a factory have been laid off overnight? Louise has an original idea: why not pool the compensation money to … hire a hit man and to liquidate the boss? Motion accepted so Louise goes in search of the gem they need and unfortunately comes across Michel, a stinky security specialist. Michel, who is busted, gladly accepts the deal but proves so inept that he sub-contracts the job to improbable novices. Moreover, as the factory was a mere branch of a multinational company, it is no bed of roses to find the one who actually made the decision to outsource its activities. But Louise will not give up so easily.
