Despite boasting an impressive cast which was led by Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters was a critical failure with an approval rating of only 15% on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite that, the movie still grossed over $225 million worldwide on a budget of only $50 million. As a result, we’re now going to be getting a sequel!

According to Deadline, Bruno Aveillan is set to direct the follow-up which doesn’t currently have a release date. He’s an award-winning commercials director who is apparently know for “his blend of cinematic style and groundbreaking effects.” Among the brands he’s helped to promote over the years are Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Swarovski, Crystals, Audi and Samsung.

Tommy Wirkola wrote and directed the original and penned the screenplay for the sequel.

It’s not clear at this point whether or not Renner and Arterton will reprise their roles as Hansel and Gretel, but the site mentions that this new movie is set to continue their story, so it’s likely they’ll be brought back. The door was left open for a sequel too. It’s always possible that the studio will recast, so we’re just going to have to wait and see at this point!
