Sony Pictures are looking to remake the 1985 Jagged Edge as a vehicle for Halle Berry. Although development on the project is still in its fledgling stages, Sony have made the project a priority and are on the hunt for a scribe.

The decision to remake the thriller was that of Steven Bersch, Head of Sony’s Worldwide Acquisitions Group. Details are still to be worked out on how to move the project forward, but Sony has made it clear this is one project they want to put into motion.

The 1985 original focused on the brutal murder of a San Francisco heiress. The murdered heiress handsome newspaper publisher husband Jack was accused of committing the gruesome crime. He hires the lawyer, Teddy Barnes to defend him, and their chemistry spills into an affair. Even though Barnes is falling in love, She can’t shake the feeling that something isn’t quite right with the case; with the killer sending anonymous notes pecked out on an old typewriter. Is Jack the key to a happy future for the lawyer if she can get him acquitted in a courtroom, or is he a sociopath?

The courtroom thriller was directed by Return of the Jedi’s Richard Marquand and starred Glenn Close as the lawyer, Teddy Barnes and Jeff Bridges as Jack Forrester. Scar Face and Big actor Robert Loggia also starred and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role.

Halle Berry last appeared on the big screen in 2017 in Kingsman: Golden Circle as Ginger.
