To celebrate the release of Moonfall, the latest blockbuster from maestro Roland Emmerich, we sat down with two of his leads to find out just what it’s like to make an Emmerich epic.

When a mysterious force knocks the moon from its orbit around Earth, it sends it hurtling on a collision course with life as we know it. With mere weeks before impact and the world on the brink of annihilation, NASA executive and former astronaut Jo Fowler (Halle Berry) is convinced she has the key to saving us all – but only one astronaut from her past, Brian Harper (Patrick Wilson), and conspiracy theorist K.C. Houseman (John Bradley) believe her. The unlikely heroes will mount an impossible last-ditch mission into space only to find out that our moon is not what we think it is.

Emmerich has always been a director who thinks bigger and bolder than many others vying their trade today and both Bradley and Wilson tell us about the trust he imbues on his cast as to why he wants to make the film and what he hopes to say about the world, particularly right now. Both also talk about the family unit at the centre of the film which, amongst all the CGI madness, is the heartbeat of the film as well as the challenges COVID presented and the power of Toto’s Africa (see the film, it will make sense).
